7-Axis Welding Robot Cell Installed
MasterWorks installed a state-of-the-art 7-axis welding robot cell. The cell was added to improve overall productivity in the IPS Security Container as well as increase the possibility of production welding contracts. 

Welding Robot Cell
MasterWorks installed its first welding robot cell to test overall profitability. The first items welded in the cell were IPS Security Container doors. 

Building Addition
MasterWorks built a 4,000 square foot addition for a new shipping and receiving department. The addition allows the previous location to be transformed into a "clean room" for electrical assembly and improved quality department. 

High Definition Plasma Table
A high definition plasma table was added to the already expansive list of equipment. The purchase was made to help expedite shipment schedules and minimize leadtimes especially in the IPS container business.  

Need for More Space
Due to expansion of equipment, services and inventory, MasterWorks outgrew the facility in only two years. The company moved to the other side of town to a 21,000 square foot facilty which was previously the home of the Cambridge Rubber Company. 

The building was renovated to include new offices, conference rooms, break rooms and segregated manufacturing departments. 

Company Expansion 
Due to the expanding manufacturing scope, MasterWorks was forced to move from the three car garage to a larger 8,000 square foot facility in Taneytown, Maryland. The larger facility allowed the company to form separate machining and welding departments as well as areas for inventory and product assembly.

As the company steadily grew, it was obvious that even more room was still needed. The search began for another nearby facility. 

IPS Container Partnership
In 2002, MasterWorks partnered with Trusted Systems Inc. in the IPS container business. An IPS container is simply an environmentally controlled armored computer safe. These containers are government approved by a GSA specification and are built mainly for government agencies and the different branches of the military. 

Due to the expanding manufacturing scope and the need for a larger machining and welding department, MasterWorks began the search for a larger facility in the surrounding area.

First CNC Equipment
The company's first full CNC machine was a VT15 Fortune CNC lathe. The machine was originally purchased to produce higher volume jobs that the company had received and could not efficiently process manually.

This purchase started the company's trend towards automated machinery. The company generally adds a new piece of CNC machinery every year since the original purchase.

Logo Designed
As the company began to grow it was necessary to start looking at the overall company identity. The original logo was designed to look like the companies initials "MW" as well as threads on a machined part. 

Company Founded
MasterWorks Machining, Inc. was officially founded in 1999 as a job shop machine shop by Tom and Donna Armfield. The company was originally located in a small, 3 car garage behind their former residence in Taylorsville, Maryland. 

As the years passed, local companies utilized the small company as an alternative to in-house machining and expensive outsourcing. An emphasis on customer service helped to keep current customers as well as grow new customer relationships.
